I'm a little late to the game for this month's theme topic for City Daily Photo, which is "triangles."
This photo was taken during our visit to Salt Lake City back in 2010. The Mormon/Latter Day Saints (LDS) Conference Center, located to the north of Temple Square in Salt Lake City, was completed in April of 2000. The auditorium in the Conference Center seats 21,000. The building is constructed of granite from the same quarry which provided the granite for the Temple. A semi-annual world general conference is held at the headquarters of the LDS Church at Temple Square and includes music by the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir in the auditorium.
The builders decided that the roof should not be wasted space, and so designed a rooftop garden with pathways that meander throughout trees, native flowers, and other plantings. A guided tour of the center offers an elevator ride to the roof where you'll have a great view of the city and the mountains beyond. The pyramid shapes are actually atrium windows channeling natural light into the building below.
Conveniently, this post also fits in with Skywatch Friday - and you can see more posts here.

Syttende Mai: CDP Theme Day

"Velkommen" (Welcome!) is the Norwegian greeting on this nightstand sign in our guest bedroom. This was a handmade rosemaled gift from my brother and his wife many years ago to my mother, a woman of proud Norwegian heritage. The woven wool runner on the nightstand came from Norway as well, a gift from my Uncle Harley, purchased during one of his many visits to the "old country."
The 17th of May (Norwegian Constitution Day) is celebrated in Norway and in many U.S. cities with Norwegian ancestry. "Glad Syttende Mai" to all!

CDP Theme Day: Creative Artisans - May 2013
This little family of cast bronze javelinas are on display at the Red Rock Ranger Station on AZ State Route 179, just south of Sedona. I'm not sure of the name of the creative artisan who made these scultpures, but they are convincingly realistic from a distance!

September Theme Day: People Watching
What better place to watch a crowd than at the Milwaukee Art Museum? We drove down to review their current "Posters of Paris" exhibit last weekend. This image shows the crowd milling about in the atrium of the gorgeous Calatrava wing which overlooks Lake Michigan.

Theme Day: Numbers
1 Corinthians 13: My nephew had this verse tattooed on his body earlier this spring. Pretty bold, but a nice sentiment!

Taste of Lake Country: Theme Day - Bright Colors

This is what waiting for summer in Wisconsin is all about. "Taste of Lake Country" is an annual beach party of sorts held at the Pewaukee Lakefront at the end of July. Booths include a variety of tastings from local restaurants, and wares from local shops and artists. The sound stage had several musical acts ending with "King Solomon," a favorite local reggae band. After a rainy, muggy day, the sun finally showed up around 6 p.m. and made for a lovely evening.

August Theme Day: Night

The Japanese Maple by our front door has such arching, graceful branches. This "flash" shot really illuminates the pretty red & gold color of the leaves against the night-time sky.

Constellation

Since I didn't post an entry in CDP's monthly theme at the beginning of July, I thought I would do it now. The theme was "empty" ...as in "my bowl is almost empty." Just a few random blueberries left floating in the milk - sort of looking like the Big Dipper stars. So, a SkyWatch of sorts, too!

Dog-Walkin'

In keeping with June's theme of "feet"...
During a hike back in April, I was trying to find something that would suggest spring. Subject matter was hard to find as, even though the sun was out, it was still rather brown and gray all around the park. For lack of anything better, I decided to get a few shots of Nik - and in doing so, got my shadow and my foot in the picture!

June Theme Day: Feet - Polar Bear Paws

The Polar Bear exhibit at the Milwaukee County Zoo features several very large bears, and this one displayed his very large and oh-so-cute padded feet during his nap!

Sculpture Shadows

In keeping with the May theme of shadows, I've posted this image of a pair of modernistic figure sculptures on display at the Holistic Wellness Clinic across from Pewaukee Lake.

Sun and Shadows: May Theme Day & Skywatch Friday

The setting sun in the distance makes silhouettes of patrons during a dinner at McCormick & Schmick's near Fisherman's Wharf. This photo was taken during a recent trip to San Francisco and seemed to be the perfect blend for both May Theme Day (shadows) and Skywatch Friday.

April Theme Day: Yellow - Healing Body and Mind

This sunny yellow display is located in the Chiropractic and Holistic Wellness Clinic on Wisconsin Avenue. It's one of the quaint storefront shops (see photo below) across from Pewaukee Lake. In addition to taking care of physical needs, they also offer spiritually inspired artwork by local artisans.

Stained Glass Cherries: March Theme Day

This ornament of deep burgundy glass cherries hangs on our patio window. Straight back and to the left you can see the thin trunk of our Montmorency cherry tree. Small but very prolific. Looking forward to summer and their sweet, tart flavor!

Paths and Passages: February's Theme

The Ryan Road trails provided a nice outing for this horse and rider (see photo below) on Sunday. The trails - used by people, dogs, horses, deer and other wild life - were once part of a large farm, & were recently donated to the city. They also include a large wooded area with paths that wind up to a ridge for a great view of the village, city and lake. We go there quite often, so watch for more postings as the year progresses.
