SkyWatch Friday: Slip-Sliding Away

A blue sky frames this decrepit, gothic farm house in Columbia County, Wisconsin. It can be seen in the distance from I-90/94, and is located just south of the I-39 Portage exit. Traveling this route for years, we have watched the steady decline of this old house. It appears to be leaning more and more each year, and I'm sure will eventually crumple to the ground unless it is demolished. In the photo below, you can see part of the newer home built to replace it.

This old house seems to be going the way of so many old barns. Sad to see them go as they are a piece of history.

How strange not to take down the old house now that there's a replacement built. Perhaps they're waiting to gather enough money to do something about it.

I'm so glad i found this. I saw this house on my way from Maryland to Montana in 2010. I have always regretted not turning back to get a better picture from the dirt road out front. It was a beautiful sad sight. I love old houses and this one told a story of age and wind. Is it still around? If so can someone PLEASE take me another picture?

RawBin: (Update 7/20/2014) - I haven't been back to my blog for a while & so just saw your comment about this old Gothic farm house off of I-94 in Wisconsin. Sadly, it was demolished a few years back and nothing but an empty field stands in its place. Glad you got to see it when it was still standing!
