X Marks the Spot: SkyWatch Friday


These contrails aren't really that unusual, but it still amazes me every time I see them.  I'm always wondering just how close they really are as they pass over and under each other headed in opposite directions.  If you click to enlarge the photo, you can also just barely see the crescent moon near the top left-hand of the "x".

Moonset Over Thumb Butte


During our recent visit, we had this early morning view of the moon setting over Thumb Butte from our Prescott, AZ hotel room. If you look closely at the larger image, you can see a dusting of snow on the hills.

The moon was racing in and out from under a blanket of clouds when I snapped this recent night-time photo. It's reminiscent of a star "nebula" image.

Spring Moon


Finally, a little green is budding out on the Ryan Road Trails! This view shows an early evening moonrise through the trees during a recent hike. Spring has sprung!
