SkyWatch Friday: Nagawicka Lake

Every Friday night during the summer, there is a traditional midwestern fish fry dinner at a local restaurant called "Seven Seas." Located on Nagawicka Lake in Waukesha County, the dining patio has a lovely view of the sunset over the lake. They also have a large pier where boaters can dock their crafts while they eat, and this photo shows a number of boats coming in for a landing.

Dam the Lake!

These photos were taken last weekend, during our very chilly walk by the Pewaukee lakefront. As you can see from the ice and wind-rippled water, it looks more like Thanksgiving than Easter. The particular area below is an inlet dam that flows under the street from the lake into the Pewaukee River on the other side.

Skywatch Friday: Dining at Seven Seas

Every Friday night during the summer, there is a traditional midwestern fish fry dinner at a local restaurant called "Seven Seas." Located on Nagawicka Lake in Waukesha County, the dining patio has a lovely view of the sunset over the lake. They also have a large pier where boaters can dock their crafts while they eat, so casual attire like board shorts, deck shoes, and sundresses are all acceptable.

Black-Eyed Susans

While at "Taste of Lake Country" at Pewaukee Lake a few weeks ago, I couldn't resist taking a picture of these happy Black-Eyed Susans. There is a lovely tended garden at the west end of the park with other Wisconsin native flowers, along with a few exotics, such as hibiscus.

Taste of Lake Country: Theme Day - Bright Colors

This is what waiting for summer in Wisconsin is all about. "Taste of Lake Country" is an annual beach party of sorts held at the Pewaukee Lakefront at the end of July.  Booths include a variety of tastings from local restaurants, and wares from local shops and artists. The sound stage had several musical acts ending with "King Solomon," a favorite local reggae band.  After a rainy, muggy day, the sun finally showed up around 6 p.m. and made for a lovely evening.

Happy 2010!

We're finally back in Pewaukee from our Arizona holiday vacation. We spent a few days in Prescott with our son and his fiance, and then a few days in Phoenix to see the Packers/Cardinals game. (The Pack won! They'll play each other again next weekend, but that's one we'll have to catch on TV.) I must admit the mild temps and sunny skies were a pleasant diversion from the reality of snow and frigid temps back here in Wisconsin.

On New Year's Day we hiked around Watson Lake - a very interesting outcropping of rocks and water on the edge of Prescott. The scenery was amazing, as you can tell by the photo of this young couple fishing. I'll be posting more photos from our trip over the next few days.

Garden Sculpture

This monolithic sculpture graces a garden at a house that borders the downtown park on Pewaukee Lake. I showed another view of this place earlier this year.

Popcorn, Peanuts and Crackerjack

This old-fashioned popcorn wagon is parked over by Pewaukee Lake. It sits idle during the week, but on special evenings, weekends and holidays, it's a popular place to get a snack.

Tattoo You

Anyone wanting to "get ink done" or have their belly button pierced in Pewaukee will need to visit Lakeside Tattoo over by the lake. A little bit scary, walking down that dark stairway to the shop, but chances are you have already decided to live a little bit dangerously if you're here in the first place...

A Day at the Beach

Another example of the painted benches at the Pewaukee Lake beachfront.

Taste of Lake Country

The park at Pewaukee Lake hosted their annual "Taste of Lake Country" this past weekend. The unpredictable weather kept many people at bay (see skies in the photos) - but during our visit, it thankfully stayed dry.

These happy people were glad to offer refreshments at the "Positively Pewaukee Pub" - and the plate of freshly spiral cut potato chips from the Butler Inn were delish along with a few of Milwaukee's finest.

We sat at a table on the beach and watched the swimmers and boaters enjoy the evening.

Thistle

This thistle is growing next to the railing of a stairway overlooking a walking path by Lake Michigan. Still tightly closed, the bloom will be a lovely fringed raspberry pink once opened. I think it looks beautiful this way, too. Hard to think of something this graceful and pretty as being a weed.

Pewaukee Picasso

This painting, created by a local artisan, is currently displayed in the window of the bike shop across from the lake. It provides window-shoppers a little extra piece of interest, and maybe a bit of enticement to enter the shop.

Lake Country Bench

There are a variety of painted wooden benches around the shops by the lake. This one, next to "Brewers Two" cafe, is a patriotic red, white and blue. A nice place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and people-watch!

The Blues

Piano Blu is a piano bar/night club located on Wisconsin Avenue across from Pewaukee Lake. The main floor is a piano bar area with a nightclub atmosphere. The upstairs is a regular restaurant. The food is good, albeit a little pricey. But as usual, ambiance comes at a cost.

Ole!

I think it supposed to be a play on words with a Mexican accent... "Seester's" (as in sisters) is a cute little Mexican restaurant on Wisconsin Avenue across from Pewaukee Lake. The bright stools out in front are a great place to spend a summer afternoon or a warm evening with friends and a margarita! People watching is also fun during the summer when the lakefront comes alive with residents and visitors alike.

Blowin' in the Wind

This railroad engine wind catcher had it's little wheels chugging like mad in the breeze the other day. It's hanging off the porch of the house just west of lake side park (see yesterday's post) - right across the railroad tracks. Notice the house address is posted on the windmill train? Clever. In the photo below you can see the rim of the tracks just below the lake.

Pewaukee Station

Next to Pewaukee Lake, right by the railroad crossing, is this replica of an old-fashioned train station. It's currently houses restroom facilities and a concession stand with a little outdoor cafe area that's open from Memorial Day until Labor Day.

Bicycles by the Lake

Looking in the window of the bike shop on Wisconsin Avenue, you can see the reflection of Pewaukee Lake across the street. This store offers high-end touring and customized racing cycles and related equipment. Below is a close up of the little old-fashioned tricycle sculpture.

April Theme Day: Yellow - Healing Body and Mind

This sunny yellow display is located in the Chiropractic and Holistic Wellness Clinic on Wisconsin Avenue. It's one of the quaint storefront shops (see photo below) across from Pewaukee Lake. In addition to taking care of physical needs, they also offer spiritually inspired artwork by local artisans.
