Grazing in the Grass

The sun has finally come out and the grass is starting to grow - ever so slightly!  Driving by one of the local farms on my way to work the other day, I noticed a group of horses grazing in the field.

As I drove closer, I rolled down my window to snap a few shots. But no matter how much I cooed and begged, the guy below would NOT look up at me!  There must have been something quite delicious at the corner of that fence post. : -)

Violet

On recent chilly morning on my way to work, I drove past the horse farm on Weyer Rd. and saw Violet sunning herself in the barnyard. :-)

Meeting Her Match

During our walk on Sunday afternoon, Nik and I passed by George's barn on the corner of Swan & Lindsay roads. His little miniature horse called "Patches" was out, and Nik was more than a little curious, as they had never met before. Nik is familiar with regular horses that we meet on the Ryan Road trails, and gives them a wide path. She's also met George's goats and shows no real interest in them. Patches, however, is very friendly and and more her size. They sniffed noses and Nik's tail wagged happily. As we left to continue on our walk, Nik looked back and did her "Woo-Roo" bark, as if to say good-bye.

Happy Halloween: Haunted Carousel

No, not really. Just a negative of the image below. It's an antique wooden carousel zebra that Juli & Jim have in the corner of their living room, photographed through their front window.

Horse Crazy

Wisconsin may be the dairy state, but around here, there are also quite a few people who own horses. As noted within this blog, there are horse farms all over Waukesha County, where "city folk" can board horses and come to visit and ride at their leisure. I'm just a casual observer, but I believe our neighbor's green copper weather vane illustrates the point.

Red Barn & Horses

Yet another horse farmstead I pass on my way to work each day. I took these photos while at a stop sign at Weyer Rd. and Hwy K. My first shot was the one above - which includes the full height of the barn - but appears to show the horses in a compromising pose! I had to wait my turn until the car ahead of me turned the corner so I could drive forward to get a slightly different angle (below.)

BFFs?

There are a number of horse farms in the area, and I pass several on my drive to work. Here is a seemingly affectionate pair nuzzling each other. However, upon closer watch, I saw that they were actually playing a horse version of "take-away" with an old green rubber ball (below.)

Paths and Passages: February's Theme

The Ryan Road trails provided a nice outing for this horse and rider (see photo below) on Sunday. The trails - used by people, dogs, horses, deer and other wild life - were once part of a large farm, & were recently donated to the city. They also include a large wooded area with paths that wind up to a ridge for a great view of the village, city and lake. We go there quite often, so watch for more postings as the year progresses.
