"Velkommen" (Welcome!) is the Norwegian greeting on this nightstand sign in our guest bedroom. This was a handmade rosemaled gift from my brother and his wife many years ago to my mother, a woman of proud Norwegian heritage. The woven wool runner on the nightstand came from Norway as well, a gift from my Uncle Harley, purchased during one of his many visits to the "old country."
The 17th of May (Norwegian Constitution Day) is celebrated in Norway and in many U.S. cities with Norwegian ancestry. "Glad Syttende Mai" to all!

I love your posting. Wonderful!
So perfect for the day, and lovely pictures to warm the heart too.
Nice contribution to this theme day.
That is fascinating and lovely to read your Norway connection- thanks
Nice to see a personal Norwegian connection
A lovely personal tie to 17 Mai! Good thinking for theme day, and beautiful plaque.

Beautiful items to remind you of Norway and of the gift givers.
Shalom to you from Jerusalem.
Lovely reminders.
I knew deep within the recesses of my ageing brain that there was a strong Nordic presence in the mid-West of the USA. It is wonderful for you that it comes from such a direct family line and that you retain momentos of that heritage. I do hope your mother would be pleased with the acknowledgement of this connection.
Thank you also for telling this small part of your story on this Theme Day for the City Daily Photo community.
These personal artifacts are so nice to have. We have this kind of thing, too. But the Swedish variety. My mother used to paint large wooden plates - she sold them to shops along the shores of Lake Vermilion. :)
