Thatched Roof

An ornamental thatched roof gazebo with a goat weathervane at the International Gardens in La Crosse.  I'll have to come back in the summer to take another photo when the grass is green and the flowers are in bloom. You can see more of the real thing here.

I've heard that thatched roofs can be quite good in terms of heating and cooling. But did you know, in the olden days, cats and dogs would take refuge in the thatch during a storm and sometimes the rain and wind would dislodge them and they'd fall out to the ground and that's where the phrase "It's raining cats and dogs" came from?

True story.

But I've never a goat on a weather vane. :)

I've never seen a goat weather vane either! I like it.

I'll be re-telling that story from now on, Lowell!
